HEALTH VISITOR AND HEALTH
PROMOTION FOR CANCER DETECTION

Aim: The diagnosis of cancer is a critical moment
for patients and their relatives. This dramatic
situation requires an increasing number of
specialists in health promotion, working together
with surgeons and oncologists. An up-date of
strategies for cancer prevention and an
establishment of dedicated equipe for counselling
in oncology are warranted. The meeting wants to
highlight the importance of health figures as
fundamental key-persons in epidemiological and
social-care research and prevention programs for a
Breast Cancer Unit.
The meeting is addressed to: health visitors, nurses
and other professional operators involved in
cancer management

Primary systemic anti-neoplastic treatment is
increasingly adopted either in clinical trials or daily
routine as a part of the multidisciplinary approach
of both operable and locally advanced breast
cancers. This treatment modality represents a
formidable tool to test in vivo the tumour
sensitivity to a selected therapeutic approach; it
also allows to explore the interaction between
anti-neoplastic therapy and tumour biology, and
can provide surrogate parameters of treatment
efficacy. The Unità di Patologia Mammaria – Breast
Cancer Unit of Azienda “Istituti Ospitalieri di
Cremona” , collaborating with the University of
Turin (Italy), the University of Oxford (United
Kingdom), the University of Melbourne (Australia),
is organising the Third International Symposium in
order to highlight and discuss with leading experts
the status of the art and perspectives of primary
systemic treatment in the management of breast
cancer patients.
